The offspring of previous South African Leader Jacob Zuma has denied all charges to terror-linked charges at the commencement of her trial in the harbor city of Durban.
Zuma-Sambudla, 43 years old, is being charged over statements she posted on online platforms in the past during violent demonstrations in South Africa that came after the detention of her dad.
A seven-day period of anarchy in multiple regions of the country in the summer of 2021, including theft and arson, left at least three hundred deceased and led to damage worth an projected 2.8 billion dollars (2.2 billion pounds).
The defendant has been alleged of fuelling this turmoil and faces charges of provocation to commit terror acts and civil unrest.
History of the Legal Matter
The unrest were concentrated in the provinces of Gauteng region and KwaZulu-Natal province and came after the former president's arrest for defying a court order to give evidence at an investigation into claims of graft while he was in power.
The defendant has repeatedly rejected the accusations against her, with her lawyer in the past describing the state's evidence as weak.
She has also frequently said the allegations against her were an effort to settle political disputes with her father after he started his own party and competed against the African National Congress.
Backing and Legal Defense
This was reinforced by the Zuma foundation, which claimed the legal matter was an "power abuse" and a "coordinated attempt" of "political and familial harassment" against the previous head of state and his kin.
A few of followers from her group, her party, appeared outside the provincial high court, while her father and other party leaders attended the proceedings inside.
The defense has stated that the proof presented by prosecutors is unconvincing and lacks concrete proof for a criminal finding.
