Indianapolis Colts Face Atlanta Falcons in Berlin – NFL Week 10
Guten tag, football enthusiasts. How are you? Everything good I trust on this excellent early start to week 10 coming straight outta Germany. Berlin's Olympic Stadium to be exact where at 8.30am CST/9.30am EST and 2.30pm GMT the mighty Indianapolis Colts (7-2) take on the Falcons (three wins and five losses). This marks the fifth matchup played on soil in Germany and the first in the nation’s capital.
Pre-match Highlights
As sparkly jackets go that is an absolute belter from Katarina Witt on the opening flip. A slight fluff from the broadcast team there as we hear “who won the toss?” from the presenter with an unfortunately hot mic.
Well, the Colts have won the toss and have chosen to get the ball first. The Colts' offense will be setting up shortly. Can the quarterback recover after a rough one in Pittsburgh?
In a similar vein the singer belting out the US national anthem has some of the largest shoulder pads you are bound to notice. The fashion picks are impressive today. We are almost underway after a choral number for the national anthem of Germany. Elegant.
Opening Period Action
Colts 0-0 Falcons 13:30, 1st quarter
Here we go! And we have early drama after Jonathan Taylor receives a short throw, sweeps out for 15 yards to the right side then loses the ball … only for his offensive lineman to recover the fumble with the ball retrieval. Indianapolis quickly moves into Atlanta's half.
Colts 0-0 Falcons 10:51, 1st quarter
And the drama keeps coming as the Colts go for it on 4th down. The risk doesn't work out as the wide receiver cannot reel in a fastball from Jones. Prior to the failed attempt Jessie Bates put a massive tackle on the Colts' tight end. Atlanta's defense started strong as they try and snap their string of three losses. Next up Sauce Garner’s debut!
Score Recap
TOUCHDOWN! Colts 6-0 Falcons 8:36, 1st quarter
Did Kyle Pitts just drop a touchdown? The Falcons player makes a crucial error, he was wide open but the ball just slips through his grasp. That moment reflects the high draft pick's professional journey to date.
So far, so disappointing but it only gets worse for the Atlanta as they cough the ball back to the Indianapolis on the 23-yard mark. Michael Penix Jr is hunted down and fumbles the football.
An agile 22-yard rush from the Colts receiver sets the running back up to roll in for the score on the following play. The placekicker skews the extra point wide. Mistake.
Falcons respond: 6-7 at 6:07
The quarterback recovers from the turnover by marching his Falcons down the field for a score of their own. The wide receiver makes some chunky receptions to put them in the red zone then the defense opens up for Tyler Allgeier to saunter on to the goal line through the middle of the defense for a 13-yard gain. The running back finishes it off for a short scoring run of his own. Advantage Atlanta.
