Palestinian-American Youth Released Following Nine Months in Israel's Detention

A American-Palestinian teenager having endured nine months in imprisonment by Israel without charge gained freedom.

The teenager Mohammed Ibrahim had just turned 15 during his detention in February within the occupied West Bank, while he was vacationing while residing in Florida for allegedly throwing stones toward Israeli settlers, allegations he repeatedly contested.

The US state department expressed satisfaction with the news of Mohammed's release.

Currently aged sixteen, required hospitalization upon gaining freedom, family members reported.

According to them, he appears pale, underweight, and is suffering from conditions contracted in captivity.

In a statement, the youth's uncle spoke of the family's "overwhelming sense of relief".

The uncle, Zeyad Kadur stated the family experienced "living a horrific and endless nightmare" over the last nine months.

"Currently, our priority is providing Mohammed with prompt healthcare he needs after experiencing Israel's abuse and inhumane conditions for months."

The state department stated they would maintain to provide consular support for the Ibrahim family.

Twenty-seven US lawmakers endorsed a document to the state department and President Donald Trump, urging greater action to release him.

Mohammed's parent, a father-of-four who runs an ice cream business in Florida, previously said Mohammed acknowledged allegations regarding stone throwing due to physical abuse.

The father hadn't visited or spoken to Mohammed since the arrest, receiving updates exclusively what had happened to him through judicial records.

The teenager remained absent formal charges within Ofer penitentiary on the West Bank.

The facility also contains adult prisoners, featuring prisoners sentenced of serious terrorism offences including killings.

There are around 350 Palestinian minors in security custody currently imprisoned in Israel, per correctional service statistics.

Numerous remain uncharged and human rights groups, including UN bodies, document cases involving physical abuse and torture.
