The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for United

Schüller, who has six months left on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL team.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
