The Reform UK leader Claims Educators of ‘Indoctrinating Children’ on Racial Topics
Nigel Farage has asserted that teachers would go on strike shortly after a success at the polls for his party, charging that they are “harming young minds” by telling students that black pupils are victims and white children oppressors.
At a gathering for a private US Christian college, the politician expressed his viewpoint on British schools, stating that the “radical left-wing” had “taken over schooling”.
“I expect a teachers’ strike soon after securing a victory,” he remarked during a Q&A session.
“They are corrupting young minds. They are telling them to feel guilt about their nation. They inform an eight-year-old black child that he is a victim and little Oliver, who is white, who is eight that he is a perpetrator. They are dividing us, instead of fostering unity. They are feeding this harmful mindset.”
In response to these assertions, Daniel Kebede dismissed the notion that the education system was controlled by Marxists as “absurd”. He pointed out that industrial action must relate to educators’ working conditions, and doubted whether Reform would attack these right after taking office.
“The politician has crafted his political career on dog-whistle politics and now, like Trump, he is targeting educators and their organizations for a conflict,” Kebede stated.
“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. I don’t – and nor does my union – advocate such divisive theories as he claims … Should he become prime minister he would sell out our public services, particularly schooling … and he would be a disaster for students and learning.”
The party, which tops surveys by a significant margin, has provided limited specifics on a proposed education policy and does not appear to have designated an education lead.
However, Farage’s remarks indicated the group would reform the system and the curriculum. Farage declared: “We face an enormous task with schooling – absolutely herculean. And, we can’t do it in six months or a year; it requires years, a long-term effort to reform.”
He stated that gen Z was more open to critical thinking, but older youth were “completely lost”.
Honoring a conservative activist, he commented: “My goal for schooling is to foster independent thought – to instruct people that there are two points of view and you make up your own mind rather than what’s happening now where views are labeled good or bad. This is a huge undertaking in both Britain and America.”
Reform has previously clashed with a major educators’ organization, after Kebede called the party “extremist and prejudiced” and described the leader as “a poundshop Donald Trump”.
Farage has accused the union head with being “an avowed radical” … someone who is absolutely determined that young minds be corrupted at school, their minds should be poisoned regarding national issues” and has argued that the union is trying to indoctrinate youth opposed to his party.
Almost one million people work in schools in the UK, about half of whom are teachers and the remainder being assistants and administrative personnel. The leading teachers’ organization has about 450,000 members.
National strikes over teacher pay and conditions in 2023 caused widespread disruption in schools and millions of days of lost learning for children.
During the American gathering, the Reform leader also vowed to promote the online educational material of the institution in the UK. He stated such groups were “part of the fightback”, adding that: “I am serious. I will help garner hundreds of thousands, if not millions of youth to these educational programs. I make that commitment tonight and I’ll do that.”
The college, a religious educational establishment, offers free courses. Its website states: “A scientific, literary, theological, political, and moral education is necessary for personal happiness and to perpetuate the blessings of freedom. The college furnishes these beautiful courses for free to every interested learner.”
